Ruby News

GATE identified students are clustered within the mainstream classrooms at Ruby Drive.  These students are provided additional enrichment opportunities during and after school hours.  Our goal is to challenge our students so that each can develop his/her potential.

Student, parent, and teacher input is used to determine areas of strength and to set goals for the school year.  GATE students are given the opportunity to work at an accelerated pace in order to meet their individual needs.

GATE students are encouraged to participate in all extracurricular activities at Ruby Drive such as student council.

Ruby Drive Elementary is dedicated to the success of all students and we want to support all families as they work on having their students at school on time every day.  We appreciate their hard work and with our partnership we will insure the success of all Ruby Drive students.

Our district's Strategic Plan 4.4 addresses attendance as part of our Safe and Respectful Environment Focus area.  This is the latest State of California information about absences.

In California, a student is truant if he/she is absent or tardy by more than 30 minutes without a valid excuse on 3 occasions in a school year.

Habitual Truancy

A student is habitually truant if he/she is absent without a valid excuse for 5 days in a school year.

Chronic Truancy

A student is chronically truant if he/she is absent without a valid excuse for at least 10% of the school year.

Chronic Absence

In California, chronic absence is defined as being absent for any reason (excused or unexcused) for at least 10% of the school year. Thus, in a 175- or 180-day school year, a student who misses 18 days of school or more is chronically absent.

Ruby Drive Elementary is excited to announce that they have received the Gold Ribbon Award given by the California Department of Education.

The California Gold Ribbon Schools Award Program was created to honor schools who have made exceptional gains in implementing the academic content and performance standards adopted by the State Board of Education for all students, including English learners.  These include, but are not limited to, the California Standards for English Language Arts, California English Language Development Standards, California Standards for Mathematics, and the Next Generation Science Standards.

2016 is the first year in which elementary schools were given the opportunity to apply for this recognition.  California elementary schools that have made tremendous gains in implementing State Board policies and their Local Control Accountability Plan were invited to apply for the Gold Ribbon Schools Award.  Model programs and practices include standards-based activities, projects, strategies, and practices that schools have adopted.

"These schools shine as bright beacons for others, putting forth an exemplary effort to ensure that every student is ready for 21st century college and careers," State Superintendent Tom Torlakson said.  "California teachers are developing an education model for the nation, training the students of today to be the problem-solvers, inventors, and pioneers of tomorrow."

Congratulations Ruby Drive Elementary!!!
